I think that Tie Co believes she is in love with Fabian. But from the outside looking in as an audience, I think she is in love with the idea of him. The fact that she gives up everything for him is evidence enough that she had some feelings for him other than that of friendship, which was brought up in class. If it were just friendship she could have just given him 50 dollars. Tie Co goes through pretty drastic measures for Fabian, I do not think that this could be put on any type collectivist mentality or sacrificing oneself for a friend. In the story the language that the author uses is all positive (i.e. strong, well built, fine features).
